Your Season! is the second edition of a participatory performance format, where art and community meet in shared practice. Your Season! is an open invitation to join in an artistic process — a hybrid of an ongoing performance, workshop, and civic art. Over five weeks, Der Betrieb becomes a choreographic landscape shaped by listening and exchange. The artistic team, the dance department students of MUK - Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna and audience together explore what it means to tune in — to each other, to difference, to the unknown. Listening becomes a way of being: a form of care, transformation, and survival. Your Season! asks how we can create spaces of shared practice, embracing dialogue and resonance within difference as an urgent need of our times.
Visitors are welcome to participate on their own terms — through dance, sound, writing, or quiet presence.Specially designed guiding cards provide scores and support all levels of engagement. The space at Der Betrieb is turned into an interactive playground, where audience can draw, write and play instruments and sounding surfaces developed exclusively for the space by musicians Stephan Sperlich and Tini Trampler. The sounds produced with these instruments are transformed by various electronic algorithms which gradually change over time.
In this spontaneous, improvisational performance, abstract themes related to dialogue e.g. empathy, conflict or power serve as starting points for dance and conversation. In Your Season! everyone is invited to “vibrate in their own frequency.”
Der Betrieb is a performance space in Vienna’s 15th district, founded in 2022 by choreographers Alexander Gottfarb and Anna Maria Nowak. Der Betrieb was born out of a wish to offer an alternative to commercial spaces: shops, cafes and beauty salons.
With large street-facing windows and free entry, it offers a welcoming space for dance, reflection, and shared experience. Open seasonally, Der Betrieb hosts durational live performances rooted in dance and choreography, inviting the public to watch, rest, and take part.
On The Road
Your Season! continues to deepen its relationship with the neighbourhood in Vienna’s 15th district and with WUK in the 9th.
Throughout October to December artists bring dance and movement workshops directly into local community settings — including Seniorenhaus Haus Schmelz, Hobby Lobby Bildungsprojekt, and WUK work.space — engaging with youth and seniors in familiar environments.
